Acceptable Use Policy

Last update: November 30th, 2025

This Acceptable Use Policy (“Policy”) sets out the rules that apply when you use Email2Obsidian and any related websites, APIs, and services (together, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to comply with this Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.

For the purposes of this Policy, “you” means the account holder and anyone accessing the Service through your account, API keys, or integrations.

1. What Our Service Does

Email2Obsidian provides infrastructure that:

  • receives emails on your behalf;
  • stores those emails (and their attachments) on our servers for a limited period of time; and
  • makes those emails available to you via a web interface, API, or integrations so that you can download or sync them to your own systems (for example, to your computer or note‑taking tools).

We do not sell, rent, or provide an email sending platform to third parties for marketing or bulk messaging. This Policy is focused on how you use our receiving, storage, and access functionality.

2. Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • any emails that you cause to be delivered to the Service (for example, by setting up email forwarding, directing third parties to email an address that routes to the Service, or using our addresses in your products or workflows);
  • any content you store, access, or export using the Service; and
  • ensuring that your use of the Service complies with all applicable laws and regulations, including privacy and data protection laws.

You must ensure that any third parties whose emails are processed through the Service (for example, your customers, contacts, or collaborators) have been treated fairly and lawfully and that you have a lawful basis to process their personal data.

3. Prohibited Uses

You must not use, or attempt to use, the Service to:

  • violate any applicable law or regulation;
  • infringe or misappropriate any intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of any person;
  • store, host, or make available content that you do not have the right to receive, store, or process;
  • facilitate fraud, phishing, identity theft, or any deceptive or misleading practices;
  • distribute or store malware, viruses, ransomware, or other malicious code;
  • harass, threaten, stalk, or abuse any person or group, or to promote hatred or violence;
  • engage in activities that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair the Service or any related systems;
  • bypass or attempt to bypass any security or access controls of the Service; or
  • use the Service in a way that is likely to cause harm to us, our infrastructure, or any other users of the Service.

4. Prohibited Content

You must not use the Service to receive, store, process, or make available any content that:

  • is illegal under applicable law, including content relating to child sexual abuse, terrorism, human trafficking, or other serious crimes;
  • consists of or promotes the sale of illegal goods or services;
  • violates anti‑spam, marketing, or electronic communications laws (for example, unsolicited marketing emails where you do not have a lawful basis to contact the recipient);
  • relates to unlawful pornography or sexually explicit material where it is illegal to create, distribute, or possess such material; or
  • we reasonably determine, in our sole discretion, is likely to damage our reputation, the security of the Service, or the rights and safety of others.

5. API and Technical Restrictions

When using our APIs, integrations, or automated access methods, you must not:

  • exceed documented or communicated rate limits, or attempt to circumvent technical limits or quotas;
  • interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service or the data of any other user;
  • attempt to access any data or content that does not belong to you or that you are not authorised to access;
  • use automated scripts or tools in a way that overwhelms our servers (for example, excessive polling or scraping); or
  • attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise derive the source code or underlying ideas of the Service, except where such restrictions are not permitted by law.

6. Account and Security

You must:

  • keep your account credentials, API keys, and access tokens secure and confidential;
  • not share your credentials or keys with unauthorised third parties;
  • promptly notify us if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account or any security incident related to the Service; and
  • not create or use multiple accounts in order to circumvent any limits, quotas, plan features, or enforcement actions.

You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account, unless you have notified us of a compromise and we have had a reasonable opportunity to act.

7. Enforcement

We may monitor use of the Service as permitted by law and as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not routinely review the content of emails you store with us, but we may do so if:

  • we are required to by law, court order, or competent authority; or
  • we have reason to believe that your use of the Service may violate this Policy or applicable law.

If we believe that you have breached this Policy, we may take any action we consider appropriate, including to:

  • warn you and ask you to remedy the breach;
  • suspend or restrict your access to some or all of the Service;
  • remove, disable, or delete any content stored through the Service;
  • terminate your account; and/or
  • report any activity we reasonably believe to be unlawful to the relevant authorities or to impacted third parties.

We will try to act in a fair and proportionate way, but we are not obligated to provide prior notice where doing so would risk harm to us, the Service, or others.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify you (for example, by email or by posting a notice in the Service). The updated Policy will apply from the date it is posted, as indicated by the “Last update” date above.

If you continue to use the Service after any changes to this Policy, you will be deemed to have accepted the updated Policy.

9. Contact

If you have any questions about this Policy, or you wish to report a violation, please contact us using the contact details set out in our Privacy Policy or on our website.
